This beautiful bird is a favorite of many people and is eagerly awaited in the spring after a long winter. In places where bluebird nest boxes are erected and European Starlings and House Sparrows are controlled, up to six pairs of bluebirds will nest on as many acres. In the past 25 years bluebirds have become uncommon in the East for reasons not altogether clear. Competition for nest sites with European Starlings and House Sparrows is likely a critical factor. The erection of many artificial nest boxes in recent years seems to be helping to increase the population.
They will lay 4-6 pale blue eggs in a loose cup of grasses and plant stems in natural tree cavities, old woodpecker holes, fence posts, and bird boxes.
Creating images that inspire insightful dialogue among viewers is my objective. A drawing, painting, print or any art should awaken reminiscence of one's past or inquisitiveness of places and things of interest or beauty. The majesty of an eagle soaring high above mountain tops or the delicate beauty of a flower nourished by nature can inspire a feeling of knowing life is unfolding as it should. I was raised in Northeastern Pennsylvania where my family has lived for generations. A child of hard working parents (as most of us were) I worked various jobs and professions while earning a college degree. Dave, Visited your Animal Gallery and favorite and voted on all 32 images, but this one really stuck out Such remarkable details in this Bluebird the colors that you have captured are fantastic and the details of this Bluebird standing on the fence while you have a chance to pick up every color in his feathers is amazing. The clarity in this photo is great, I feel like I can reach out and grab the Bluebird. Great job at blurring out the background to give the viewer a great shot of this gorgeous Bluebird.
