One winter night was so cold the snow crunched like ice beneath my feet as I walked across the dark mountain path. I had been hiking earlier that afternoon and was lost in the woods.
The temperature dropped, the wind howled and the snow started. I didn’t know what I was going to do in the dark without a flashlight to find my way.
Just when I thought I was lost for good, I seen a small spot of light way off in the distance. The closer I moved toward it, the brighter it became and I recognized it as the only street light in our mountain village. I was saved.
The next day at the village café I was telling my story about the night before, when the mayor spoke up and said he was the one that erected that only street light in the village. He said he had it installed after he was lost on the mountain and there was no light to follow home.
